Cougars Choice
Each year at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, students in Grades 6 - 8 are able to choose three different electives (one elective each trimester). Middle School Electives are classes chosen by the student based on their own interests and experiences.
Educational research indicates that middle school students appreciate the ability to make a major choice in their education and that they gain independence and practical skills needed later in life by being allowed to choose their own elective classes. Furthermore, choosing their own elective classes allows students to be more receptive to their own learning and solidifies IHM School's philosophy of truly being "student-centered" with small class sizes where each individual student truly matters. Middle School Electives also help prepare students for future decision-making with regard to their own education and employment later in high school, college, and life.
As with high school and college electives, some IHM School Middle School Electives do have prerequisite classes. At Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Middle School Electives are ungraded classes as they are experiential in nature. More information on IHM School's Middle School Electives will be made available to families upon request.
